Laughing Gas and Pre-Treatment Medication
We offer nitrous oxide (also known as laughing gas) to help patients relax during their dental procedures. Nitrous oxide has been used for years, and it is a very safe relaxation technique. We have had great success with our patients who choose to use it and have found that it really does help them relax.
The patient simply breathes in the gas through an apparatus before and during treatment. During the procedure, we make sure there is a steady supply to the patient while we work on his or her treatment. After the procedure is complete and the supply stops, the gas is eliminated from the body within 3 to 5 minutes, which prevents any unpleasant after-effects from occurring.
We can also prescribe pre-treatment medication for patients. If a patient is extremely apprehensive about undergoing dental procedures, we can also prescribe medication to take before visiting the office to help him or her relax during treatment. In combination with the laughing gas, we find patients are relaxed and able to undergo dental treatment.
